Memphis, Tennessee

Memphis leads the pack with the most anticipated new attractions opening or recently being added to student performance tours in 2018.

Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley, has completed its largest and most significant expansion to date. The new $45 million dollar state of the art facility that delves into the life story of Elvis Presley now includes a museum, exhibits, restaurants and shops.

Nearby Graceland is the “Big River Crossing”. This newer 5,000 foot structure that students can walk or run on spans the Mississippi River. Shelby Farms Park “Heart of the Park” is growing and now includes over 4500 acres. New trails, wetlands, decks and pavilions for performances are the latest upgrades to this natural setting.

Lastly, but most significantly to United States history, the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis will be commemorating the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior with a year-long exhibit that will be open through April. These new attractions make Memphis a great destination for your performance tours in 2018!

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Eastern United States destinations have a lot to shout about this year. Philadelphia has a new observation deck, One Liberty Observation Deck; they say from here you’ll see “Philly from the top”. The deck’s interactive environment has 360 degree “eyemazing” views of Philadelphia and beyond. Also new in the city is The Franklin Institute. The institute is a national leader in hands-on science learning for all ages.

New York City

Gladstone Marquee Theater

Off Broadway in New York City invites you to bring your group to OZ this year when you see the play WICKED. Group tickets may be purchased through early July. Also in downtown New York City is the newly opened National Geographic Ocean Odyssey. Your students will step through the iconic yellow border, journey deep into the Pacific Ocean using groundbreaking technology, and appreciate the greatest wonders and mightiest creatures of our seas face to face.

Jersey City, New Jersey

Jersey City, New Jersey’s Liberty Science Center, is innovating again. They have recently opened the new Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium and are launching a whole palette of educational programs that will enhance performance tours and educational tours. Workshops include an App development class, a live surgery interactive event and the most anticipated – Star Trek: The Starfleet Academy Experience.

Ohio

Throughout Ohio’s Lake Erie Shores and Islands community a new Cedar Point Shores Waterpark debuts, the Ghostly Manor Thrill Center Escape Room opens, Kalahari Resort Outdoor Waterpark expansion takes place and the Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial is offering fresh programs.

 

Chicago, Illinois

The Midwest’s Chicago Field Museum has a top ten list of can’t-miss attractions this year including:

  • The world’s only full-sized Mastaba tomb outside of Egypt with 23 mummies and 5000 year old hieroglyphics
  • North America’s largest blue topaz and collection of Chinese jade
  • A full scale re-creation traditional Pawnee Lodge

San Francisco, California


Not wanting to leave out the West Coast, one of the most requested public performance venues in San Francisco is adding a thrill ride to its offerings. Pier 39 will introduce “The Flyer”, a 28-seat flying theatre with a massive movie screen and the newest 3D technology available.
